Practices of Orientation:

Communal art practices for uncertain times

Orientation isn’t about direction or answers—it’s about presence.

Practices of Orientation is an ongoing series of community art workshops exploring how we find our way through periods of change, uncertainty, and transition. Using simple creative practices, participants gather to reflect, make, and reconnect — both with themselves and in community. Keeping the work human, not abstract; each workshop seeks to answer a different question:

  • Where am I?

  • What grounds me?

  • What moves me?

  • What do I return to?

These in-person workshops offer a calm, welcoming space for creative reflection, conversation, and community connection in uncertain times. No artistic experience is required; the emphasis is on process, curiosity, and shared exploration rather than finished artwork. All materials are provided.

Orientation doesn’t come from knowing the destination — it comes from recognizing what is familiar enough to guide us. Landmarks focuses on identifying what steadies us and what helps us recognize where we are. Through responsive art-making, participants are invited to identify and visually explore personal landmarks — the experiences, values, images, and rituals that provide grounding during times of change. Focus is on marking points of recognition. Discover what steadies you — and how to return to it.

Come as you are. Notice what moves you.

Some seasons ask us to steer. Others ask us to drift. How do we move when certainty disappears? What happens when we stop trying to control direction and learn to move with what’s already in motion?

In Drift & Currents, we explore the paths we choose as well as the unseen forces acting on us: exploring obligations, tides, seasons, external pressures.

Through guided mapping, mark-making, and shared reflection participants create visual maps that trace movement, resistance, and flow.
